When you need a rock solid, secure converged communications system... get a little soul.

SP Telemedia has a New Brand Name

The company you know as the SP Telemedia Group has a new name.
Soul.
Our recent expansion and significant infrastructure investment has achieved our goal of becoming the force in full service, fully converged, multi-media communications.
After accomplishing that, we felt a new name was called for.
One that would stay true to our Australian origins.
A name that would not only represent the quality and extent of our organisation throughout metropolitan and regional Australia but also one that would encompass our way of doing business.
Owning the second largest voice and data network in Australia and delivering services on alternative infrastructure has given us a competitive edge.
So much so that State and Federal Governments, as well as major corporations and consumers are taking advantage of the benefits that only a truly converged network like ours, can offer.
So, from today, the only name you need remember in converged communications is one that not only supplies the necessary competitive edge, but also, more importantly:

A little soul.

Our Business

S P Telemedia Limited (SOT) is an innovative market leader in the IP telecommunications and multi-media market. Listed on the Australian Stock Exchange (Code: SOT) with a market capitalisation exceeding $700M, SOT's entry into the market in 2000 was met with huge success in a relatively short period of time. Since its establishment, SOT has maintained rapid growth proving itself to be a dynamic and significant force in the Australian telecommunications industry. SOT is a multi-media full service telecommunications company providing innovative voice, internet and data solutions to a wide range of customers from consumer through to SME, Corporate and Government sectors.

With a number of strategic investments in media and telecommunications, SOT is uniquely placed in the Australian market to take advantage of new multi-media services as we are the only telecommunications carrier with a model that is built on a broadcast television heritage and the owned infrastructure inherited from this relationship.

In October 2005, SOT elected to consolidate all of the SPT companies (Soul Pattinson Telecommunications, SPT Telecommunications, SPTCOM) into the one new brand, Soul.

Soul is one of the most profitable telecommunications companies in Australia and our underlying profitability has proven that we have a viable, sustainable business generating positive cash flows and profits.

A Unique Business Model

Soul has developed and rolled out a national IP network to rival the incumbent legacy network providers. The business model has proven successful in a very short period of time and is unique as the network was built from the ground up to impart Video over IP for Digital Television distribution. Not only does the network carry DTV for NBN Television, WIN Television, Prime, SBS, ABC and TEN but it also carries the standard Wide Area Network and Voice over IP services for a large number of Corporate and Government customers. The broadcast heritage has provided Soul with a regionally diverse network that also has capital city capability.

IP communications are surpassing yesterday's phone systems to become the future of business communications. The delivery of both voice and video on the data network is enabling rich media communications and Soul is ideally placed to take advantage of these developments in the market.

The recent strategic investment in B Digital has resulted in three operating divisions within the Group. The group strategy is to cross subsidise each other, namely in the areas of media, telecommunications infrastructure and mainstream telecommunications for the retail / consumer market.

The core competencies within the Soul group, namely our expertise in both telecommunications and broadcasting services to the Consumer, SME, Corporate and Government market, mean that we are ideally placed to lead the introduction of new and innovative multi-media products and applications.

Where did it all begin?

Soul's design and build started from a blank piece of paper and green field sites. Within two years the core network infrastructure, covered the entire Eastern seaboard and traversed many coastal and inland towns and centres in areas that you would expect that Digital Television pictures and sound need to go.

Today the network is fully operational, extending nationally East and West and North and South across the country, carrying diverse traffic from many Soul customers.

This entire network continues to expand to address the growing demands of Government, Corporate and Business clients as well as meeting the needs of regional and remote communities and those in the capital cities.
